India boasts a vibrant film industry that churns out of whooping number of movies every year, including Bollywood and regional cinema. Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer Kalki 2898 AD is considered the most expensive Indian film ever made. Made on a hefty budget of Rs 600 crore, the film has surpassed other high-budget Indian films like RRR and Adipurush to claim the title. However, its scale is small in comparison to the most expensive Hollywood films, with its budget being less than one-fifth of the costliest film ever made.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides holds the title of most expensive film ever. Initially, the budget was set of at $250 million (Rs 2167 crore), but due to escalating production costs, it surged to $379 million (Rs 3,321 crore). For Stranger Rides, Johnny reprised his leading character as Captain Jack Sparrow. The ensemble cast also included Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R McNally, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin, and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey. This fantasy adventure film, was the fourth installment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.
Release in 2011, the film achieved tremendous success worldwide. Rs 379$ million (Rs 3,321 crore) were spent in the making of the film and it earned over Rs 1 billion (Rs 8,672 crore). Dangal, the highest-grossing Indian film ever, earned Rs 2000 crore at the global box office. Even the combined earnings of 2 Baahubali films (Rs 2400 crore) does not match the Rs 3000 crore mark.
Reportedly, Johnny Depp charged a whopping sum of $55 million (Rs 4.81 crore) for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. When compared to its budget, Johnny Depp took home 14.5% of the budget as his salary.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 is currently in works and would serve as the restart of the popular franchise. Johnny Depp will not be in the sixth part, leaving fans highly disappointed. “We’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” Bruckheimer told Comicbook.com
