Fatima Sana Shaikh is one of the most renowned actresses in the industry right now, especially after making a remarkable debut with Aamir Khan’s Dangal. She has since delivered stellar performances in films like Ludo, Thar, Dhak Dhak and Sam Bahadur. Despite her successful career, the actress recently revealed the harsh reality of her early experiences in the film industry, including the casting couch.

The Reality Of Casting Couch

In a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Fatima Sana Shaikh shared the shocking details of her initial encounters with the casting couch. She recalled an unsettling experience in the South film industry, where a casting agent crossed a line by asking if she was ‘ready to do everything’. The actress said, “He (the casting agent) asked me, ‘You will be ready to do everything, right?’ I told him that I will be working hard and will do what is required for the role, but he kept saying that and I played dumb because I wanted to see how low can he get.”

She further revealed another incident that took place in Hyderabad, where producers would subtly talk about the casting couch. She said, “We were in a room, and the producers would talk about it very openly, giving indications that you have to meet people. They wouldn’t say it outright, but it was clear what they meant.” However, she clarified that not everyone in the industry was like this, adding, “Not everyone is like that. Known casting directors won’t do that; only fraud people would. Of course, Mukesh Chhabra and Anmol Ahuja don’t do that. But there are shady individuals who take advantage of young, struggling actors who are new to the city and don’t know much.”

The actress also highlighted how some casting directors take advantage of young, struggling actors, especially those who are new to the city and unaware of industry norms. The actress said, “Even if we were at the audition through word-of-mouth, the casting director would ask us to write down our references. That means you have to give 15% of your payment to them, despite not knowing them at all.”
