Debutant filmmaker Krishna Marimuthu’s Yuddham Sharanam, starring Naga Chaitanya in the lead role hit screens today. A lot of expectations were pinned on the film given its excellent star cast. The movie is based on a bomb blast in Hyderabad which is apparently staged by a ravenous and merciless criminal Nayak, essayed by Srikanth, to appease his political overlords. The repercussions of the blast destroy the simple and beautiful life of Arjun (Naga Chaitanya) and his family and the story picks up hereon. The Telugu action-thriller film, produced by Sai Korrapati on Varahi Chalana Chitram banner has Lavanya Tripathi in a lead role opposite Naga and has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year. However, the film has failed to live up to the audiences’ expectations. We have listed them out for you below so that you can be sure of what to expect before you hit the theatres.

Check them out here:

Firstpost- 2.75 stars : Naga Chaitanya’s latest action thriller Yuddham Sharanam is a tale about a youngster who takes on a gangster against all odds. Sounds like a cliche? Not really. Yet, it doesn’t quite hold your attention until the end to justify the arduous journey undertaken by its characters. Directed by Krishna, Yuddham Sharanam is the kind of film where the characters race against time, but the story doesn’t. There’s also an overwhelming sense of deja vu while watching the film; however, what really weighs down the film is that it reveals all its secrets way too soon. The Hindu: Earnest is a word that could sum up the work of debut director Krishna Marimuthu and team. The work has finesse, the sensibilities seem right and the story revolves around a few truly likeable characters. But earnestness alone cannot keep one invested in the proceedings. A whole lot of good actors are wasted in poorly-etched supporting parts, from Priyadarshi to Prashanti Tipirneni and Kireeti. If at all there’s some character growth, you see it in Arjun when he reveals his cards by and by. But these twists, too, offer no big surprise.

The Indian Express- 2 stars : Yuddham Sharanam follows a pattern that we have seen in various other films in the past. It has a young happy-go-lucky protagonist, whose life is easy and peaceful and one day a life-threatening incident threatens to destroy everything he holds dear. And he becomes a reluctant warrior, who has to take on very superior opponents to protect his loved ones. The plotline is quite similar to Naga Chaitanya’s 2016 crime thriller Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo (helmed by Gautham Menon).Yuddham Sharanam has good things but they are not fresh.
