Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with a lot of grandeur and pomp all over the country. Lord Ganesha is worshipped during this time, believed to grant wealth, prosperity and success to his devotees.  Those who celebrate, welcome Lord Bappa into their midst, seeking his blessings for prosperity, wisdom, and success in new ventures. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 07, Saturday.

On this day, people observe a fast and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha with deep devotion and dedication, seeking his blessings. As we gear up to celebrate the special day, here are a few dos and don’ts that must be followed on this day:

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024: Dos

• Opt for simple sattvic food if you choose to eat during the fast. Typical vrat foods include fruits, nuts, sabudana, and milk. Avoid spicy, oily or heavy foods.
• Avoid certain vegetables like onions and garlics. Stick to vegetables that are acceptable during the fast.
• Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to stay hydrated. Some people also drink buttermilk or coconut water.
• Perform the traditional rituals of Ganesh Chaturthi with devotion. This includes setting up an altar with an idol of Lord Ganesha, offering prayers and performing aarti.
• Consider making a donation or engaging in charitable activities as a way of giving back and seek blessings.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024: Don’ts

• Refrain from consuming non-vegetarian food and alcohol, as they are considered impure during the vrat
• Avoid stressful activities that might distract you from the spiritual focus.
• Ensure that you perform the daily prayers and rituals dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Skipping them can be disrespectful.
• Always make sure to wear the clean clothes during the puja. Also refrain consuming rice, lentils and wheat.
