David Luiz and Thomas Muller

European heavyweights Germany take on host nation Brazil in the first semi- final of the 2014 World Cup which is billed as a match made in heaven. Here is a list of some of the players that will be in action in Belo Horizonte hoping to guide their nation to a first final in 12 years.

STAR PLAYERS

David Luiz: After scoring a cracking goal against Colombia his confidence would be sky high but Brazil needs a commanding game in defence from the new PSG recruit. The absence of Thiago Silva has put the onus on him to lead the Brazilian backline.

Thomas Muller: The impressive Bayern Munich forward has been one name synonymous with the German side for the last four years or so and after the disappointment of losing the 2010 World Cup semi-final to Spain, he once again has a chance to redeem himself when he takes on Brazil in  Belo Horizonte .

Dante: He is the man set to replace skipper Thiago Silva in the starting line- up against Germany and being a Bayern Munich player he will have indepth knowledge of several German players who might start the game.

Luiz Gustavo: Coach Scholari will breathe a shy of relief with the return of midfield anchor Luiz Gustavo who would look to stamp his authority on the game which will not be an easy task considering he would be up against the likes of Kroos and Khedira.

Oscar: The Chelsea star has failed to live up to the expectation so far in the tournament but being an integral part of Scholari’s plan he will be looking to repay the fith shown in him by his coach.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR GERMANY

Toni Kroos: Germanys midfield general is a tireless runner for his side and his effective passing can  force Brazil to submission in this high octane encounter.

Matts Hummels: After his fine showing against France in which he scored his second goal of the tournament, the Borrusia Dortmund centre back will again be the key for Germany in defence when they take on Brazil.

Bastian Schweinsteiger: The Bayern Munich midfielder is playing his third semi-final in a row and his experience will come in handy. After finishing third in the previous two World Cups he will be hoping to finally lay his hands on the cup.
