A mysterious fever has grappled the Kutch region in Gujarat. From the beginning of September the, Lakhpat taluka of Kutch has reported death and rise on cases of an ‘unknown illness’. This mysterious fever has got the health authorities on their toes. Infection like H1N1, dengue, malaria, Covid-19 and Crimean-Congo fever have already been ruled out. The death toll is now at 15 according to IANS report.

5 things about mystery illness in Gujarat

  1. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said 48 new cases of fever have been detected in seven villages of Lakhpat and Abdasa.
  2. 11 persons, including four children, died earlier due to an undiagnosed fever between September 3 and 10.
  3. The signs begin with usual fever and chills. The patient may eventually develop pneumonia like symptoms and multi-organ failure within a few days.
  4. According to India Today report, a team of animal husbandry officials have ruled out possibility of zoonotic virus.
  5. Samples of the infected patients have been sent to Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) in Gandhinagar and at the National Institute of Virology in Pune to identify the exact cause of the fever and subsequent deaths

“Hundred isolation beds and 30 ventilators as well as BiPAP machines are kept ready at Adani G K General Hospital here to address any emergency situation. We have deputed a cardiologist and two expert physicians along with 50 medical teams led by MBBS doctors in this region for early diagnosis and treatment,” he said.
