Weight gain and health issues can be daunting, but restoring health is a major empowering decision. So Mahira Menghani, an independent professional based out of Mumbai, made this decision and thus began her life-altering journey. With a weight of 105 kg in the postpartum stage, afflicted with PCOS, gestational diabetes, and high cholesterol, she felt that a radical change was indeed her requirement. Mahira managed to lose 42 kilograms within eight months, thanks to her firm determination, consistent effort, and organized planning concerning her diet and exercise. A certified nutritionist and mindset coach, Mahira now uses her own experiences to help others accomplish their health goals.
While in college, Mahira had a history of always being active but over the years, strong eating habits and absence of any routine have been big foes to her body. After her marriage, the difficulties rose as she had developed PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and gestational diabetes while pregnant. After the delivery, there were further worsening instances that brought her to an umbilical hernia, high cholesterol levels, and skyrocketing weight. She gained weight, peaking at 105 kg, where even simple tasks became abysmal tiring. That was when she knew life had taken control, and it was do-or-die for her.
Mahira realised that no amount of exercise would ever cut up for a bad diet. Instead, her focus firmly turned toward nutrient-dense food, portion control, and mindful eating. She stayed away from the concept of dieting altogether and instead found a way to work with the foods that she liked so long as the foods she chose were healthful, with a well-balanced ovo-lacto vegetarian diet that provided adequate protein, vitamins, and other essential nutrients.
All the deep-fried items were basically thrown away and replaced with air-fried stuff, and sugar was replaced with natural sweeteners like stevia and monk fruit in order to control her blood sugar levels.
Having secured her nutrition, Mahira zeroed in on fitness training, beginning light jogging and strength training in order to build her stamina and eventually up the ante as her endurance kept growing. Slowly running became her niche, and with an arduous training schedule, she finished the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025 to crowning glory upon her fitness journey.
Like every other weight-loss venture, Mahira had her fair share of ups and downs, plateaus, and time constraints. She juggled work, motherhood, and training and was very disciplined in her approach to ensure consistency. Most importantly, it was about perseverance, not an overnight transformation.
