The Match 38 of 2015 Cricket World Cup is a uniquely poised to be one of the interesting clashes of the tournament. The Group A fixture showdown taking place between England and Afghanistan at Sydney Cricket Ground despite having no effect in the tournament (both the teams are already out) with its outcome but still holds a lot to watch out for among spectators. While a win for Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan will be a glorious ending, a loss is the last thing Eoin Morgan’s England need at this hour. Take a look at the five players who should guide their side home to victory:
1. Eoin Morgan (England)
The English captain who took reigns of the side prior to cricket’s biggest tournament failed miserably; failing to motivate the side and get past group stage. With back-to-back dismal performances, Morgan would hope to finish the tournament on a better note before the complete rehabilitation/post-mortem trial begins once they are back on English soil. 2. James Anderson (England)
One of the biggest reason of England’s nightmarish display Down Under was due to the below par performance of the English spearhead. The 32-year-old probably playing his last World Cup looked a bit of his old self when he removed Bangladesh openers in style. Anderson is expected to make life hell for Afghans batting line-up.
3. Samiullah Shenwari (Afghanistan)
His match winning knock of 96 had helped Afghanistan register a historic victory over Scotland, their first win in Cricket World Cup. Shenwari is Afghans leading run-scorers and has been constantly among runs something that should give him a lot of confidence. Currently 19th highest run-scorer of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 with 147 total runs, Shenwari would like to repeat his winning knock against England at the SCG. 4. Shapoor Zadran (Afghanistan)
Shapoor Zadran has taken 10 wickets so far in the tournament (more than biggie like South African Dale Steyn and Australian Mitchell Johnson), will once again look forward to rattle a shaky batting line-up. It will be interesting to watch England play this economical pacer. Also Read: 2015 Cricket World Cup Leading Wicket-takers: List of Top Bowlers of WC 2015.
5. Jos Buttler (Afghanistan)
He almost snatched the victory for England in the last match against Bangladesh with his quick-fire 65. Buttler would hope to get his side cross the line this time around against Afghanistan and not let the team be further shamed.
