Both the sides playing only their second Group B match looked confident of giving an entertaining match especially amidst all the talks of axing the associate nations from the next tournament. Ireland who have slowly established themselves as able chasers won the toss and invited Mohammad Tauqir’s UAE to bat in the hot and humid conditions of Gabba, a decision that surprised many. The UAE batting completely belonged to one person – number six batsman Shaiman Anwar who hit a magnificent 106 to power his side to reach 278 at the end of 50 overs.

Coming in to chase a decent target of 279, Ireland’s decision to bat second looked misfiring as they lost their last match’s hero Paul Stirling in the second over. After the loss of early wicket, captain Porterfield and team’s most experienced player Ed Joyce played to consolidate but in the process the required run rate continued to rise. It was brave effort by Gary Wilson and Kevin O’ Brien 50 (25) who did not have great day in bowling. Also Read: ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Schedule in IST: Time Table, Fixture & Venue Details of all WC 2015 Matches.
