Ireland defeated United Arab Emirates by two wickets to register their second consecutive win in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the Gabbba, Brisbane. Chasing, 279 Gary Wilson played sheet anchor role to guide his side home, he was well supported by Kevin O’Brien, who smashed 24-ball fifty. For UAE, it was Shaiman Anwar’s tall effort with the bat that helped them post a decent total on board. Anwar, who scored his maiden One-Day International (ODI) ton, became the first UAE batsman to register a century in World Cup. UAE reeling 131-6: Ireland bowlers made most out of the Gabba wicket, at least initially, by making life tough for UAE batsmen. Inside 21 overs UAE were tottering at 78 for four and then Khurram Khan and Shaiman Anwar stitched a small partnership of 47 runs to help UAE get back on track. But UAE lost two quick wickets including Khan and were floundering at 131 for six.

Anwar scores ton: Shaiman Anwar became the first batsman from UAE to score a hundred in World Cup match. The right-handed batsman played carefree strokes as he bailed UAE out of initial slump. Anwar was well supported by Amjad Javed and the two put on a century stand for the seventh wicket. Anwar’s 106 made sure UAE post a challenging total on board. Ireland lose their way in chase: After Paul Stirling was dismissed in second over, Ireland captain William Porterfield and Ed Joyce shared a 68-run stand for the second wicket to help their team recover. But UAE fought back and scalped three quick wickets for just 25 runs to leave Ireland in trouble at 97 for four.

Wilson-Balbirnie 74: At 97 for four, wicketkeeper batsman Gary Wilson joined hands with Andy Balbirnie and the two formed a half-century stand to take Ireland close to the target. Wilson-O’Brien 72:  Wilson then lost his partner in 39th over with Ireland still needing 108 runs more runs to win. It was dasher Kevin O’Brien who provided Wilson the much needed support and the two together hammered UAE bowling to form another half-century stand. During this partnership, Both Wilson and O’Brien reached their half-centuries. O’Brien soon perished after reaching his 24-ball fifty, but he had already done most of the damage. After O’Brien’s dismissal Wilson took over and brought the asking down with his lustrous strokes. He too fell on an individual score of 80, with Ireland needing just 10 runs to win off 15 balls.
