In a pretty relaxed manner Pakistan chased down the target of 238 in 46.1 overs against Ireland at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide to book themselves a place in quarterfinals. It was wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed’s unbeaten ton that took Pakistan to victory with seven wickets in hand. Batting first on a batsman friendly wicket Ireland were undone by some good bowling by Pakistan seamers. Despite Ireland captain William Porterfield’s century all Ireland could manage was 237 in their full quota of 50 overs. Pakistan pacers shared nine wickets between them to restrict Ireland to a gettable total. Wahab Riaz scalped three wickets while Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali picked two. Ehsan Adil who was playing in place of injured Mohammad Irfan and Haris Sohail chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing 238, Pakistan chase began with a solid opening partnership of 120 runs between Ahmed Shehzad and Sarfraz Ahmed. This was first time in this World Cup Pakistan opening pair registered a hundred-run stand. Shehzad then was dismissed on an individual score of 63. Few balls later Haris Sohail was run-out and looked like Pakistan will make mess of the chase, but 82-run stand between Sarfraz and Misbah-ul-Haq for the third wicket provided stability to chase. Skipper Misbah was then hit-wicket but Pakistan by then were already close to victory. Sarfraz then notched his maiden ODI ton to see his side through.
