Brendon McCullum and Corey Anderson, with the help of Kane Williamson scoring his 13th fifty from 17 matches took New Zealand to a mammoth 331 for 6 in the first match. Brendon McCullum went hammer and tongs at the Sri Lankan bowling and it looked like he was going to blow them out of the contest. Rangana Herath’s flighted delivery was smashed to the long on boundary and it looked like it was going for a six before Jeevan Mendis took a safe catch. Martin Guptill meanwhile, was also dangerous and was at his attacking best but played second fiddle to McCullum.
