CHICAGO, IL – The Gujarat Cultural Association hosted a grand Diwali celebration enhanced by a live musical concert that attracted scores of families, friends, and community figures on November 1 at Waterford Banquets, 933 South Riverside Drive, Elmhurst, IL. The event was graced by dignitaries present from all different professions such as political, entertainment, education, business, medical, information technology), along with prominent community Leaders.
The evening started with a social hour featuring a variety of delicious appetizers and soft drinks. The program started with the welcome speech by Meena Purohit who conveyed Diwali and New Year wishes to everyone and invoked the blessings Goddess Laxmi on this occasion.
She invited all dignitaries, important guests and Samaj executive board members for lamp lighting led by president Kanti Patel and joined by prominent leaders, including Niranjan Shah, Dr. Bharat Barai, Mafat Patel, Iftekhar Shareef, Babu Patel, Keerthi Ravoori and Ashok Punjabi.
Ashok Punjabi, who was the chief guest, conveyed Diwali greetings and thanked Kanti Patel for giving him the honor to be on the stage.
Niranjan Shah, prominent community/business leader who was the honored guest, gave the Diwali greetings and praised president Patel.
Dr. Bharat Barai, a prominent and influential Gujarati medical doctor, also conveyed his Diwali and Happy New Year wishes to everyone and gave examples for business acumen of Gujaratis.
Consulate General of India was unable to attend the event but his message was read out by Iftekhar Shareef who stated, “I hope that you will continue to maintain your close links with your homeland while carrying on with your outstanding contributions to your adopted homeland”.
Awards were given to the following individuals for their outstanding service to the Indian community.
Nilesh Topiwala: In appreciation and recognition for his loyal service as a certified public accountant to the Indian community and continual support to Samaj.
Dr. Nita Patel: In recognition for her excellent achievement in dentistry and her commitment and dedication to the Indian community.
Mitesh Patel: In honor of dedication and professional achievement in construction while continuing his support to the Indian Community of the Chicagoland Area.
Kalapadma Dance Academy presented three dance items–Diya dance with lamp, Ganesh Stuti and Raas from Ram Lila movie.
Singers who entertained the audience with sensational Bollywood songs were Nalini Parikh (female), Sunil Patel, Eshaan Ahmed, Shohail (Aqeel Bhatti), Jitubhai Jothi and Jitu Bulsara, all well-known singers from Chicagoland area.
