Indian American executives Jayshree Ullal, president and chief executive officer of Arista Networks in Santa Clara, Calif.; and Dheeraj Pandey, president and CEO of Nutanix, Inc., in San Jose, Calif.; were among the nine individuals honored with Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards for the Northern California region at a gala held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco June 12.
Winners were selected by an independent judging panel made up of previous award winners, leading CEOs, private capital investors and other business leaders.
Andy Bechtolsheim, founder, chief development officer and chairman of Arista Networks, a provider of cloud networking solutions, was among the nine honored at the event. He accepted the award on behalf of himself and Ullal.
Pranesh Anthapur, chief people officer at enterprise virtualization and storage company Nutanix, accepted the award on behalf of Pandey, who was recognized in the software category.
“The Indian American community was well represented by four finalists in this year’s EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards in Northern California, and two of them became winners,” said Ernie Cortes, program director, EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards program in Northern California.

The other two Indian American finalists were Jyoti Bansal, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based AppDynamics; and Suhail Doshi, CEO of San Francisco-based Mixpanel.
Regional award winners are eligible for EY Entrepreneur of the Year national awards in Palm Springs, Calif., Nov. 14.
The U.S. Entrepreneur of the Year overall award winner is eligible to compete for the World Entrepreneur of the Year award in Monaco in June 2016.
Now in its 29th year, the EY program recognizes business leaders in over 145 cities in 60 countries worldwide.
The other Northern California winners were: John Foraker, CEO, Annie’s, Inc.; Jean-Jacques Bienaime, chairman and CEO, BioMarin Pharmaceutical; Kenneth Lin, CEO and founder, Credit Karma; Keith Krach, chairman and CEO, DocuSign, Inc.; Paul Nahi, president and CEO, Enphase Energy; and Marcus Ryu, CEO, president and co-Founder, Guidewire Software, Inc.
