Well, there are no second thoughts that the Indian Premier League 2015 (IPL) opening ceremony at Salt Lake stadium was dull and boring. First, rain interrupted the start of the event and then Saif Ali Khan, the host, absolutely looked clueless with what he was doing. Yes, the ‘Chhote Nawab’ goofed up at several places while hosting and for those expecting a good show, it was a night to forget. Here are the talking points from the gala night that turned out to be a damp squib. Catch- All the IPL action here.

Saif Ali Khan is a terrible host

Wonder if Saif knows the first thing about hosting. The actor has hosted award shows before but anchoring a live show was an unfamiliar territory for him. Saif was receiving live feeds on the mic about the proceedings and that was clearly visible on his face when at times, he had no idea what to say or and what not to. There were plenty of awkward pauses too. Right from the start, it looked the actor depended on a script. He did try to improvise, but fell flat on his face. He was quite purposeless to the proceedings.

The Virat-Anushka moment

IPL 8 opening ceremony did not miss a moment to put the spotlight on love birds, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. While the NH10 actress was performing on stage, the camera caught hold of the dashing Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain to provide the crowd with a blush or a stare. A rare one, we must say! Also Watch- IPL Opening ceremony performances.

Rohit Sharma caught unaware

When Rohit Sharma was called up on the dais, it turned out to be a moment of laughter as the Mumbai Indians skipper was unaware where to go. Rohit kept wandering and nearly slipped into the light fittings, bearing his team’s emblem and it turned out to be inadvertently funny.

Who was the showstopper?

Shahid Kapoor looked the most decent performer of them all. Hrithik Roshan was not that bad with his sizzling dance moves but his backup dancers were a complete eye-soar. Farhan Akhtar was out of tune and a pale shadow of the energy he oozes in his films while Anushka was alright but who was the real showstopper? Perhaps no one. There were no sparkling performances and thus the gala event, sadly, was an uninteresting and and inadvertently funny affair. Check Out: IPL 2015 Schedule – All Match Fixtures and Complete Time Table of IPL.
