Put to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a massive total of 202 for five despite losing opener Parthiv Patel in the very first over. After Lendl Simmons and skipper Rohit Sharma, the duo of Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard made sure Mumbai finish with a huge score on board.

Rohit and Simmons together notched valuable 119-run stand for the second wicket after Parthiv was run-out. The left-hander lost his wicket due to a superb effort by Faf du Plessis. After the initial jolt, both Rohit and Simmons went after Chennai Super Kings bowlers and kept piling up runs. Both batsmen reached their respective half-centuries in the process.

Against the run of play, Mumbai lost both set batsmen in quick succession and 120 for one became 120 for three. Rohit (50) was the first one to be dismissed as he failed to pick Dwayne Bravo’s slower ball. One ball later Dwayne Smith removed Simmons (68) by going through his defence.

After two quick wickets, Rayudu and Polllard helped Mumbai get back on track with a scintillating 71-run partnership that saw Mumbai make mess of CSK bowling. The duo slammed 71 off just 28 balls. MI lost couple of wickets towards the end, including Pollard (36), but eventually ended up with 202 on board.

Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh finished unbeaten on 36 and 6 respectively. For CSK Dwayne Bravo picked two wickets while Mohit Sharma and Dwayne Smith chipped in with a wicket each.
