Bengaluru: A shocking incident has come to light in Bengaluru city, where the decomposed body of a 59-year-old British national was found in a Koramangala VII Block apartment. The deceased, identified as Gavin James Young, was a chef by profession and had been residing in the United States, TOI reported. Initial probe suggested that the foreign national may have died by suicide after taking an overdose of medicines. Cops investigating the case also recovered a suicide note from the scene.
According to police, the deceased man had rented the apartment from a man named Jagadish through Airbnb on July 1. He also reportedly, asked the man to not to disturb him until August 1 due to his hectic night shifts.
Residents come to know about Young’s body when they detected a foul odour emanating from the flat and informed Jagadish, who later informed police.
Police reached the spot and secured Young’s body and informed the UK embassy to notify the deceased family. Cops also filed a case of suspicious death.
Upon examination, the scene revealed the presence of syringes and numerous packets of pills. Young, who suffered from diabetes, also had medications on hand to cope with elevated blood pressure and other maladies. The finding of several empty pill packets suggests that an overdose might have occurred. The police estimate that the incident happened near the start of August, but the exact circumstances will be clarified following the completion of an autopsy. Interestingly, there were no signs of forced entry or physical struggle discovered at the location.
Authorities also found Young’s UK passport and are verifying his visa status. Preliminary information indicates that he might have arrived in India on a tourist visa in April.
