Bengaluru Meat Ban: The BBMP has imposed a meat ban in Bengaluru city on September 7 (Saturday) in wake of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations which marks the beginning of the 10-day long Lord Ganesha festival celebrated in several parts of the country.
As per an order issued by the animal advisory board of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to meat shop owners, sale and slaughter of any and all kinds of meat will be prohibited on September 7. The meat ban is applicable to over 3,000 licensed meat shops in Bengaluru city which fall under the BBMP limits, the civic body said.
In related news, the Bengaluru civic body has warned sculptors not to make Ganesh idols from Plaster of Paris (POP). In an order issued earlier, the BBMP imposed a strict ban on the sale and manufacture of Lord Ganesha idols made with POP, warning makers who flout the said order of a hefty penalty.
Ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the city, the BBMP has asked organisers of Ganesh ‘pandals” to obtain the necessary permissions if they want carry out a pandal.
The civic body has established over 6o single-window clearance units to issue permits to organizers who want to conduct Ganesh pandal in the Karnataka capital, Deccan Herald reported.
Meanwhile, banks in Bengaluru city will remain closed in wake of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Saturday, according to the holiday calendar issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the year.
