Karnataka Sex Tape Scandal: If the sweltering heat was not enough to keep things boiling, the political scenario in Karnataka has further heated up since the allegations of sexual assault and subsequent filing of a case against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna over the release of videos that allegedly showed him sexually assaulting multiple women.
Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent Lok Sabha MP from Hassan Constituency, is the grandson of former Prime Minister of India HD Deve Gowda.
The video clips allegedly featuring Prajwal Revanna surfaced on social media days before voting was held in Hassan on April 26 during Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha Elections.
Prajwal Revanna left for Germany on April 27 shortly after the videos emerged online. He has denied the allegations and filed a complaint claiming that the videos being circulated are doctored.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led Karnataka government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the matter.
It is being reported that the videos in question were shot by Prajwal Revanna and were circulated widely in the Hassan constituency following which a woman filed a police case against the MP, accusing him of sexual assault.
In her charge, she alleged that she had been sexually abused multiple times between 2019 and 2022 by Revanna adding that he misbehaved with her daughter over a video call and had “vulgar conversations” with her.
The plaintiff further said that Prajwal’s father and former Karnataka minister HD Revanna also sexually assaulted her when his wife was not at home adding that there is a threat to her life as well as her family.
Devaraje Gowda, a BJP leader has claimed that he had written to the then state president BY Vijayendra in December last year, flagging “grave allegations” against the family of HD Deve Gowda, including Prajwal Revanna.
Devaraje Gowda has claimed that he owns a pen drive containing 2,976 explicit videos of women which were being used to blackmail them into continuing to engage in sexual activities.
“If we align with the JD(S) and if we nominate a JD(S) candidate in Hassan for the Lok Sabha elections, these videos can be used as a “Brahmastra” and we will be tainted as a party that aligned with the family of a rapist. This will be a big blow to the image of our party nationally,” Devaraje Gowda had written in the letter.
Prajwal Revanna is the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency where voting was held on April 26. Janata Dal (Secular), or JD(S), joined the BJP-led NDA in September last year.
Prajwal’s father HD Revanna, who is also an accused in the case filed by their former house help, is MLA from Holenarasipur constituency.
The sexual assault case has turned into a big political tiff between the JDS and the BJP as the latter has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna amid the controversy around his purported sex tapes.
Congress has lashed out at the BJP, alleging that the party helped Prajwal Revanna flee the country amid the row over the alleged sex tapes. Congress leaders and workers staged a protest in Bengaluru demanding his immediate arrest.
