Karnataka Water Crisis latest News: At a time when Bengaluru is facing waterlogging due to heavy rains, there is another district in Karnataka which is suffering from acute water crisis amid rising temperature. As per a report by Times of India, over 99 villages in Karnataka’s Belagavi district are facing the new crisis and are completely dependent on water tankers.

To address the crisis, the district administration is seeking help from private borewells and others for the adequate water supply.

The development comes as the temperature in the district is rising across Belagavi district and waterbodies are getting drained. Apart from this, several rivers, ditches, lakes, wells and borewells are drying up.

Many rovers such as Krishna, Malaprabha and Ghataprabha are drying up and the water levels in other reservoirs have also gone down. This has led to the acute water crisis and because of this, people and livestock are facing severe problems.

The report suggested that there is a shortage of drinking water projects in the district and over 220 villages are getting one hour of water supply once a week.

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the organisation that started with the objective of providing drinking water 24 hours a day, has been hampered due to a lack of water sources.

Giving details, Deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil stated that necessary measures will be taken in the right time so that villagers don’t face the problem of drinking water.

He added that water is being supplied through borewells hired by tankers in some areas and he also urged everyone to use water judiciously.

What is worrisome is that the rural and urban drinking water supply department said if there is no pre-monsoon rain, the problem is likely to worsen in these villages.

The district administration said that the water is being supplied through 99 tankers in 94 village panchayats and over 35 private borewells have been hired to supply water with 520 trips daily.

One local resident named Santosh stated that in Belagavi city and all the villages of the district, there is a situation where water needs to be stored.
