Your body is approximately 60% water and when there is a lack of water in your body it is called as dehydration. You lose water from your body mainly through urine, sweat and stool. You need to replenish the water to avoid dehydration. Mild dehydration can be treated by drinking more water while severe dehydration requires medical care as it can lead to organ failure or loss of consciousness. Causes of dehydration includes diarrhea, exposure to sun, sweating due to vigorous exercise and diabetes. You are dehydrated if you feel thirsty and have dry mouth. 1. Bad breath
The reason for your bad breath is not always the onions you had during your dinner. Bad breath is also a sign that you are dehydrated. It happens because the production of saliva decreases when you are dehydrated and this causes overgrowth of bacteria, which causes bad breath, in your mouth. If you experience bad headache at work, your first instinct should be to drink water. Dehydration can lead to headache, so before you pop a pill to get rid of the headache, try drinking just plain water first. 3. Bad mood
Dehydration can also trigger irritability and mood changes. If you find yourself in bad mood, confused or irritated, chances are that you are not drinking enough water and your body needs water to function properly.
4. Blurred vision
Drinking enough water is also important to keep your eyes moist and healthy. If you are dehydrated your eyes will become dry and you will have blurred vision. 5. Muscle cramps
Another sign of dehydration is muscle cramps. If your body loses water due to excessive sweating, it can lead to muscle cramps. Keep yourself hydrated when you workout.
6. Skin elasticity changes
You can test the elasticity by pinching your skin. If you are dehydrated, then your skin will not snap back to your body. Normally, when you are well hydrated the skin returns to its normal shape quickly because of its elasticity and fullness. Lack of water changes the elasticity of your skin. 7. You want to eat something sweet
You crave for sweets when you are dehydrated. It happens because your body is struggling with the production of glycogen without sufficient water and it triggers the craving. Drink lots of water instead of searching for candies.
