Holi, the festival of colors, is celebrated across India to mark the arrival of spring. It is the time to enjoy, laugh, play and meet your friends and dear ones. It falls in the month of phagun and this year it is on March 2. It is celebrated by applying colors on each other and enjoying food and drinks. Earlier the colors used for Holi made using flowers but these days, the colors are full of chemicals that can cause skin irritation, breakouts and allergies. However, by taking small precautions, you can avoid the skin damage caused by harmful colors. Here are some effective tips to protect your skin from the harmful colors this Holi.
Apply Almond oil
Almond oil will not only hydrate your skin but will also protect against the color. Rich in vitamin E, almond oil forms a protective layer on your skin. All you have to do is take almond oil and apply all over your body. Massage for about five minutes and you are ready. Do not forget to apply it between your toes, behind your ears and around your nails.
It is important to stay hydrated so make sure you are drinking enough water or juice. This will keep your skin hydrated. Harmful chemicals in the color can seep into the skin if it is dry.
Apply waterproof sunscreen
Do not step out without applying waterproof sunscreen. This will protect your skin from tan and other damaging effects of sun and the colors. You can opt for a sunscreen with SPF 30. Apply the sunscreen 20 minutes before your head out.
Do not sit in the hot sun
Once you are covered in colors, try to avoid sun exposure. The sun rays can intensify the colors and it will become difficult to get rid of the colors. Make sure to sit under shades after you are done playing Holi.
Apply Lip balm
The chemical sin the colors can make your lips dry and chapped. It is advisable to apply a moisturizing lip balm or petroleum jelly on your lips. You can also shea butter. Apply a thick layer to keep them moisturized.
For Holi celebration, wear something that covers most of your skin to protect it from the harmful colors. Also, oil your hair and braid it. You can use olive oil or coconut oil. Protect your nail by applying nail polishing before you step out to enjoy the festival.
