Bad breath is the biggest turn off for the person you are talking to. It can be quite embarrassing at a job interview or a date. Bad breath can be occasional or chronic. We all get foul breath when we eat some pungent foods like garlic or onion and it goes away only when the food is passed out of the body. Some people have chronic bad breath, which is also known as Halitosis. It is the unpleasant odor present in the breath and it can be categorized into genuine and non-genuine cases. In most of the genuine cases of bad breath, the odor arises from the mouth. However, in non-genuine cases the odor is caused due to disorder in the stomach, esophagus, throat, sinus, nose, tonsils and lungs. Bad breath is considered as an indication of poor condition of health. Here are some home remedies to get rid of bad breath. 1. Oil pulling with coconut oil
Oil pulling is an effective technique for oral hygiene. It also keeps your mouth infection free. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
You will need: 1 table spoon of coconut oil
Method: Take a table spoon of coconut oil, put it in your mouth and swish it around for about 10 minutes. Do not swallow it. Spit it out. Take some lukewarm water and rinse your mouth. Do this every day in the morning before you brush your teeth. Make sure that you spit out the oil after use in the garbage and not on any of your home sinks as the toxic content may start eroding the surface.
2. Eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus oil contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It will not only get rid of the foul smell in your mouth but will also reduce swelling or pain in the gums due to its analgesic property.
You will need: Two to three drops of eucalyptus oil and a cup of water.
Method: Add two to three drops of eucalyptus oil in water and use it to gargle. After you are done with gargling, use some plain water to rinse your mouth. 3. Apple cider vinegar

You will need: 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a glass of water.
Method: Add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water and use this solution to gargle. Use the entire glass of water for gargling and then rinse your mouth with plain water. Do this once every day.
4. Tea tree oil

Rich in antioxidants, tea tree oil is best known for its use in treating acne and pimples but it also helps treat bad breath.
You will need: One to two drops of tea tree oil and a glass of water

Clove is an effective home remedy for treating bad breath.
You will need: Two pieces of cloves.
Method: Put the pieces of cloves in your mouth and slowly chew on it. You can also make clove tea and sip it to get rid of the bad breath.
6. Fennel seeds
Have you seen Indian restaurants offering fennel seeds after your meal? Fennel seeds are effective in getting rid of the bad breath problem.
You will need: 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds.

7. Sunflower seeds
Sunflower seed is also a great home remedy for bad breath.
You will need: A teaspoon of sunflower seeds and a glass of water.
Method: Eat a teaspoon of sunflower seeds and then drink a glass of water.

You will need: A glass of slightly warm water and a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice
Method: Extract juice from ginger and add it to a glass of warm water. Use this solution to rinse your mouth. Do this after every meal. 9. Green tea
Replace your morning coffee or tea with green tea. This will help you get relief from bad breath. The natural antibacterial compounds, phytochemicals, will fight the bacteria that cause the foul odor.
You will need: One cup of hot water, one green tea bag and honey (optional).
Method: Take a cup of hot water and put in the tea bag. Let it steep for a couple of minutes and then remove it. Drink it or add in honey for taste. You can drink about three cups of green tea in a day.
10. Baking soda
Baking soda alters the acidic condition in the mouth and makes the condition unfavorable for the bacteria. This prevents the growth of bacteria in the mouth and prevents bad odor.
You will need: A pinch of baking soda, toothpaste and toothbrush.
Method: Add a pinch of baking soda in your toothpaste and use it to brush your teeth. Do it once a day.
