Tea time is for some interesting talks and delicious snacks. From sukha bhel to samosa to healthy nuts, we all love snacks. It is light, tasty and keeps you going. However, sometimes you get bored of the same samosa and pakoda. If you are searching for some delicious snack recipes, here’s how to make soya cigars with pineapple relish, NRI waffles and churros with spicy chocolate. These recipes are shared with us by celebrity chef Shipra Khanna. She will be hosting a new show called ‘Snack in the Box’ on Living Foodz from February 26.

Soya Cigars with Pineapple Relish

For Soya Kheema:

1 cup Soya granules (soaked)

2 nos Onions

1 tbsp Ginger -garlic paste

1 Green chilli

1 tsp Red chilli powder

Pinch of Garam masala powder

1 tsp Coriander powder

1 tsp Oil

Spring roll sheets

Coriander leaves

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying


2 tbsp all purpose flour

Water as required

For the relish:

3 slices of Pineapple

1 tsp Chilli flakes

1 tsp Oil

Salt to taste


Heat oil in a pan; add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

Add ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, a little bit of garam masala, chili powder and chopped green chilies. Stir for a while and add soaked soya granules.

Now remove the soya keema off the flame, add salt, chopped coriander and mix well. Keep aside for cooling.

To make slurry:

Take 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour, add a little bit of water and mix well to make a thick slurry.

For pineapple relish:

Heat oil in a pan, add chili flakes, chopped pineapple, and salt and stir well.

Stuff soya kheema masala inside the spring roll sheet, use the slurry to stick the sides and give them a cigar shape.

Heat oil in a kadhai for deep frying, gently drop the soya cigar rolls and fry until they turn golden brown.

Serve with pineapple relish.

NRI Waffles




1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp Baking soda

½ cup Khoya

1 tbsp Butter

250ml Milk

1 cup Sugar

Pinch of Kesar

Pinch of Cardamom powder


In a large mixing bowl add all purpose flour, baking soda, khoya and butter. Start mixing it while adding milk to it.

Heat the waffle maker and coat it with butter. Pour the mixture in it and let it cook till it’s crisp and golden in colour.

To make Sugar syrup: In a pan put one cup of water then add sugar, kesar, cardamom powder to it and cook it for a while.

Serve the waffles hot and dripping with sugar syrup.

Churros with Spicy Chocolate

For the Churros:

1 tbsp Butter

1 tsp Sugar

½ cup Milk

1 cup all purpose flour

½ cup Corn flour

1 Egg

Oil for deep frying

For Chocolate sauce:

1 cup Chocolate syrup

1 tsp Cayenne pepper

For Cinnamon sugar:

1 ½ tbsp Cinnamon

1 cup Caster sugar


In a medium saucepan combine water, butter and sugar over medium heat.

As the butter starts melting, add milk and stir. Then add flour and stir continuously until the dough forms into a ball and rolls around the pan.

Remove from the heat, add corn flour and eggs to it while keep stirring. Put it back on the flame, cook for 2 minutes and stir continuously till it is well incorporated.

Transfer the dough to a piping bag with star nozzle.

Very carefully drop the piped dough in heated oil and fry for 2 minutes until golden and crisp.

For the Cinnamon sugar: 

Place caster sugar with cinnamon in a large bowl and mix together.

To make the Chocolate sauce:

In a pan add chocolate syrup and cayenne pepper. Boil on a low flame and remove.

Toss the Crispy Churros in prepared cinnamon sugar & serve them with dipping hot Chocolate sauce.
