The winners’ list of Padma Awards 2017 has been announced today and it includes Olympic winners PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi, cricketers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar and Gymnast Dipa Mehta among others. Padma Awards, which is among the highest civilian awards of India, are conferred to people from various fields like engineering, science, social work, trade and industry, sports, medicine, etc. The awards are divided into three categories, namely Padma Shru, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. The award ceremony is held on the Republic Day every year. One of the Padma Bhushan awardees this year is Swami Niranjana Nanda Saraswati, the founder of Satyananda Yoga. 1. Swami Niranjana Nanda Saraswati was born in 1960 in Rajnandgaon in the state of Chhattisgarh. He started living at the Bihar School of Yoga at the age of four with his guru Swami Satyananda Saraswati.
2 It was through yoga nidra that he received his spiritual and yogic sciences training. Yoga nidra is a state of consciousness between sleeping and waking or a form of meditation where your body is relaxed. 4. Swami Niranjana Nanda Saraswati came back to India in the year 1983 to manage the Yoga Research Foundation, Sivananda Math and Bihar School of Yoga at his guru’s behest. 5. In 2000, he established the Yoga Publications Trust in Munger in Bihar. He has also written many classic books on the Upanishads, tantra and yoga.
