Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Ahmednagar, Madha, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Hatkanangle seats in Maharashtra

All these seats go to polls on April 23 during phase 3 of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi: Maharashtra’s 14 Lok Sabha seats go to polls on April 23 in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. Here’s a look at Ahmednagar, Madha, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur Hatkanangle Lok Sabha seats of the state:

Ahmednagar: The city houses industries of agricultural equipment and pharmaceuticals. It also has over 17 sugar factories. NH-50 and NH-222 connect it to several nearby towns and cities. BJP’s sitting MP is Gandhi Dilipkumar Mansukhlal who defeated an NCP candidate in both 2014 and 2009 elections. This year, the saffron party has fielded Sujay Vikhe.

Madha: Agriculture is the primary occupation and economic activity here. The district has access to several National Highways and also has a well-connected railway system. The seat has been held by NCP since 2009. This year, BJP has fielded Ranjeet Singh Hindurao Naik Nimbalkar.

Sangli: Sangli is Asia’s largest turmeric producer and also has many sugar mills. Tourism is also an important industry here. From 1967 to 2009, the seat was held by Congress. However, in 2014, BJP’s Sanjay (Kaka) Patil wrested the seat from Congress and would be defending it this time.

Satara: The city has the World Heritage Site of Kas Plateau. It has a rich industrial economy and is home to electrical, electronics, mechanical and automobile machinery companies. Over 20 companies also have their research and development centres?. This seat has been with NCP since 1999. Udayanraje Bhonsale is the sitting MP who is aiming for a hattrick this year.

Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg: The city is home to the Biological Research Station and is connected to nearby cities via NH-17. It is also a vital part of the Konkan Railway. It has mostly been held by Shiv Sena. Sitting MP Vinayak Raut is defending his seat this year from Congress candidate Navinchandra Bandivadekar.

Kolhapur: Kolhapur is known for its temples. It has some prominent educational institutions as well. Dhananjay Mahadik of NCP is the sitting MP from Kolhapur who would be defending his seat from Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Mandlik this year.

Hatkanangle: Main economic activities here are textile, small scale manufacturing, jowar cultivation, soybean cultivation and groundnut cultivation. The sitting MP is Raju Shetty of Swabhiman Paksha. Shetty is defending his seat as a candidate of Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan. The party is in a pre-poll alliance with Congress and NCP.
