New Delhi: The man, who slapped Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday during a Lok Sabha Elections 2019 roadshow in Moti Nagar area of the national capital, was sent to two-day judicial custody on Sunday. Suresh has also been charged under section 107/51 of the CrPC by the Delhi Police.

Earlier on Saturday, the Delhi police had registered an FIR under IPC Section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) against him.

As per the cops, Suresh is a former party worker and was disappointed due to behaviour of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. However, AAP alleged that the Delhi Police had planted the man. “Delhi Police planting that man belonged to AAP, this is really shameful given the fact that the attacker’s wife has herself said he was a Modi Bhakt and did not like anyone talking against Modi,” said AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Meanwhile, CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday held Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the attack. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal asserted that the assault was an insult to the people of Delhi.

“In the past 5 years, this is the 9th attack. After becoming chief minister it is the 5th attack. In this country Delhi CM is the only only CM whose security’s responsibility is in the hands of opposition party that is BJP. Therefore, the responsibility is on BJP government,” said Kejriwal while speaking to reporters, a day after the slapgate incident.

Arvind Kejriwal was atop an open jeep when the man wearing a red t-shirt jumped onto the vehicle and slapped the chief minister before he was pulled off the jeep.

This was not the first time that he has been attacked during a public event. In November, 2018, a man smeared chilli powder on his face. The incident happened inside Delhi Secretariat. On the other hand in February 2016, some people attacked his car with iron rods and sticks in Punjab’s Ludhiana.
