New Delhi: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, will contest from Punjab’s Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. BJP released its 26th list of candidates for the three seats in Chandigarh and Punjab.

Som Prakash will contest from Hoshiarpur and Kirron Kher has been fielded from Chandigarh.

Sunny had joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal earlier in the day.

“He (Sunny Deol) understands the pulse of people and we are certain he will prove to be a strong leader,” Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said while welcoming the actor.

The development comes days after BJP chief Amit Shah met the actor in Pune. If reports are to be believed, Shah met the ‘Gadar’ actor in a bid to convince him to contest from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.

Addressing media, Deol said, “The way my papa worked with and supported Atal ji, I am here today to work with and support Modi ji. My work will do the talking.”

Notably, Sunny’s father and veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra was associated with the BJP in the past. His stepmother Hema Malini is BJP MP from Mathura and is contesting from there this time as well.
