Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday performed a ‘pooja’ in the presence of Computer Baba aka Namdev Tyagi at a venue in Bhopal. Notably, Tyagi was accorded minister of state (MoS) status by the previous BJP-led government last year, but he later resigned, accusing the then chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of “not fulfilling” the promise of stopping illegal sand mining in the river Narmada.
The Computer Baba is camping along with thousands of sadhus to undertake Hat Yoga. The campaign will be undertaken by the hundreds of sadhus to seek votes for Bhopal seat candidate Digvijaya Singh as against the BJP candidate Pragya Singh Thakur.
Campaigning for Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, the Computer Sadhu said, “BJP sarkaar 5 saal mein Ram Mandir bhi nahi bana paayi. Ab Ram Mandir nahi toh Modi nahi. (BJP government failed to construct Ram Mandir in 5 years. We don’t need Modi if there is no Ram Mandir)
Meanwhile, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh had appointed the self-styled godman Namdev Tyagi, also known as Computer Baba, as the chairman of a river trust in the state in the month of March.
The state spiritual department passed the order of appointing Tyagi as head of the ‘Ma Narmada, Ma Kshipra and Ma Mandakini Rivers Trust’ a few days before the model code of conduct for Lok Sabha polls came into effect, said an official.
