Addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Barrackpore on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi evoked Mamata Banerjee’s cutting remarks recently to his claims that even though they are political adversaries, she often sends him sweets and kurtas.
PM Modi in the rally said, “I will accept the rasgullas made from Bengal’s mud, it will be my honour. Countless freedom fighters, great thinkers have walked on this soil, if I get this, it will be a prasad.”
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had said that the people of West Bengal will gift Modi rasgullas made of mud and stones, which will break his teeth if he tries to take a bit off them.
Her enraged comments followed a day after Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar held an ‘apolitical’ interview with the Prime Minister and prodded him to comment on his relations with political opponents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed on Wednesday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, otherwise a vocal Modi critic, herself selects kurtas and gifts them to him every year.
In a candid conversation with actor Akshay Kumar, Modi added that the revelation might harm him in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
He also said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to send him special sweets every year from Dhaka. “When Mamata Didi came to know about it, she also started sending me Bengali sweets on one or two occasions every year.”
