Bhopal: Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Bhopal Digvijaya Singh on Friday refused to be drawn into the controversy over his rival and BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s comment on Mumbai ATS chief late Hemant Karkare.
He only said, “EC has clearly said that no political comments should be made on Army & martyrs. Hemant Karkare ji was an honest & committed officer who attained martyrdom for the people of Mumbai in a terror attack.”
Earlier also, when ANI tried to evoke a response from him, he just said, “I will only say that I will not comment on BJP’s candidate.”
Sadhvi Pragya had said,”Maine kaha tera (Mumbai ATS chief late Hemant Karkare) sarvanash hoga. Theek sava mahine mein sutak lagta hai. Jis din main gayi thi us din iske sutak lag gaya tha.Aur theek sava mahine mein jis din atankwadiyon ne isko maara, us din uska anth hua. (Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me in Malegaon blasts and treated me very badly. I told him your entire clan will be erased. He died because of his karma).
BJP has drawn flak for picking Sadhvi, who is an accused in Malegaon blast case, for Bhopal. When her candidature was announced, Divijaya had tweeted, “I welcome her in Bhopal. Hope you like the peaceful, educated and civilised atmosphere of the city.”
“I pray to Maa (goddess) Narmada for Sadhviji and seek bless blessing from Narmadaji (holy river) so that we all walk the path of truth, non-violence and religion. Narmada Har (glory be to the Narmada),” he said.
