Writing to the East Delhi DCP, the women’s rights body has asked if an FIR was registered, the accused identified. It also sought to know the current status of the probe. The DCP is required to file his reply by May 11.
Earlier in the day, at a press conference, Atishi had broken down while reading aloud from a pamphlet. There, she also blamed her political rival and BJP candidate, cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir.
She said, “BJP people and Gautam Gambhir circulated this pamphlet in every household along with the morning newspaper… This shows how low they can stoop to win elections…”
Reacting to her allegation, Gautam Gambhir said that never had he sullied anyone’s name while campaigning. Challenging AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal of orchestrating the controversy, Gambhir vowed to withdraw his candidature if proven guilty. Else, she said, “if Arvind Kejriwal does not get the proof, does he accept the challenge that he will leave politics forever on May 23?”
He also said he was mulling over filing a defamation case against AAP. “I will definitely file a defamation case against them. You can’t tarnish someone’s image just like that if you don’t have the proof. I have never given a negative statement against anyone so far in my election campaigning.”
