The MCC is currently in force for elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and by-polls to three assembly seats in Goa on April 23.

The meeting was called following a series of complaints from temple committees that the EC’s flying squads are forcing them to stop religious activities post 10 pm citing the MCC.

Goa is currently witnessing feasts at various temples in rural areas.

Speaking to PTI, Kunal said directions have been issued to political parties and their candidates, asking them not to use socio-religious events for any political purpose.

“We will ensure the model code of conduct does not come in way of celebration of local tradition and customs. We have unanimously resolved that there will not be any obstruction or disturbance to any kind to celebrations happening in temples and churches,” the CEO said.

The election authorities have already asked political parties not to hold public rallies or campaign near churches on April 19 (Good Friday) and April 21 (Easter).
