New Delhi: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who recently joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held his first roadshow in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Saturday. A huge crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor-politician, who campaigned for Kailash Choudhary, BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Barmer.
Some of them were seen gifting him his portrait. His famous dialogue from the movie ‘Gadar’ – “Hindustan zindabad tha, zindabad hai, zindabad rahega”, and “Tareekh pe tareekh” from ‘Damini’ played in the background as the actor waved at the crowd and greeted them with handshakes.
62-year-old Sunny Deol has been fielded from Gurudaspur from where late actor Vinod Khanna had contested successfully on a BJP ticket. Deol will take on Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar from Gurudaspur.
Deol, who joined BJP just four days ago on April 23, has already come under electoral cross hairs of the party’s rivals with Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh terming him a ‘filmi fauji’. “Sunny Deol is a ‘filmi fauji,’ while I am a ‘real fauji.’ Captain Amarinder Singh had said in Gurdaspur, Punjab on Friday.
Deol is the second member of the family after his step mother Hema Malini, the BJP candidate renominated from Mathura, to be given ticket by the party in this election. His father Dharmendra was BJP MP from Bikaner in 2004.
