New Delhi: In the runup to the Lok Sabha elections, as barbs continue to fly, Union Minister Smriti Irani wasn’t amused by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s comment on Monday on her shoe distribution drive in her constituency of Amethi.
Reacting to Priyanka’s charge that by distributing shoes, Smriti had not insulted Congress President Rahul Gandhi but the people of Amethi, the minister said, “Actor main reh chuki hoon toh natak Priyanka ji na hi karein to behtar hai, jahan tak baat un gharib nagrikon ki hai jinke paas pehne ko joota nahi tha,toh kripya karke agar unme thodi bhi sharm ho to khud ja ke dekh lein ki sach kya hai (I have been an actor so it would be better if Priyanka ji didn’t resort to drama. As far as people who did not have shoes are concerned, if she has any shame, she should go herself and find out the truth).”
Earlier, speaking to the public in Rae Bareli, Priyanka had said that she found it strange how Smriti went about distributing shoes. She said that by trying to show that the people of Amethi didn’t even have shoes, Smriti had humiliated them. She added that the people of neither Amethi nor Rae Bareli had ever begged in front of anyone.
Earlier in the day, Smriti also reacted to how Rahul submitted in Supreme Court how he attributed the ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ jibe to the latter. She said that the one who claimed that the chowkidar was a thief had himself admitted that he lied. She added that the public won’t forgive those who took them for a ride and insulted the Prime Minister and the apex court.
