Chhattisgarh: Reacting to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur’s controversial statement on the Ram Mandir issue, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday alleged that the Malegaon blast accused is known to have a quarrelsome temperament.
Baghel said that her statements come as no surprise as it is Sadhvi’s innate nature. He claimed that 19 years back she was indulged in violence and involved in roughing up people. ‘…Pragya Thakur aadatan apradhi jaisa unka vyahwar raha hai, 19 saal pehle yahan chakubaazi ki thi, maar-peet ki thi, thodi-thodi baaton pe jhagda karti thi, to jhagdalu pravarti ki shuru se rahi hai,” the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister
He also alleged that in BJP no one had a “clean image” and so fielding Pragya Singh Thakur from the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat isn’t astonishing.
The BJP did not have any other candidate so it has fielded a ‘gunda mavali’ (goon) who had indulged in spreading terror,” Baghel added while addressing an election rally at Chhattisgarh’s Tundra. The CM was campaigning for Congress candidate from the Janjgir-Champa Lok Sabha constituency Ravi Bharadwaj.
Thakur who is out on bail in the 2008 Malegaon blast case was criticised for claiming that IPS officer Hemant Karkare was killed during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack as she had “cursed” him for “torturing” her. On Sunday, Sadhvi bragged that she had played an instrumental role in razing the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya and will now help build the Ram Mandir at the disputed place.
Thakur, who is pitted against senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh from the Bhopal seat, has apologised for her remarks.
