Tala Marandi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in Jharkhand, is seeking a ticket from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to contest the Lok Sabha elections, JMM sources said on Friday. Marandi met JMM executive president Hemant Soren on Thursday, sparking speculation that the former BJP state president may join the JMM.

Marandi on Friday expressed unhappiness over not being given a ticket by the BJP.

“I wanted to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Rajmahal but the BJP did not consider my name. My name suddenly disappeared. I met Soren but no political issue was discussed,” he told the media.

The BJP has fielded Hemlal Murmu, who joined the party in 2014.

Marandi became the BJP state president in 2015 but was forced to resign from the post the same year after questioning the Raghubar Das government’s decision to amend the two land acts formulated to safeguard the interests of the tribal people.

Vijay Hansda is the outgoing JMM MP from Rajmahal constituency.
