Tensions between the AAP and Gautam Gambhir, the BJP candidate from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, flared up on Thursday after the former held a press conference against pamphlets laden with offensive language found distributed in the constituency against AAP leader Atishi. Dehli Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Atishi helmed the press meet, where they accused Gambhir and the BJP of indulging in this maligning campaign.
Addressing the press meet, Atishi held up a pamphlet, levelling accusations at the former cricketer of sullying her name and using objectionable language against her.
While reading out the contents of the pamphlet, Atishi broke down but continued reading it to the media persons present.
She started, “BJP people and Gautam Gambhir circulated this pamphlet in every household along with the morning newspaper… This shows how low they can stoop to win elections… This pamphlet distributed by Gambhir’s team reads- Know your candidate Atishi Marlena. She is married to a Christian from Andhra Pradesh that is a beef eater. She is a good example of a mixed breed… What kind of education policies can she make if she has worked only as a primary school teacher…”
Soon after the AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in her support, “Never imagined Gautam Gambhir to stoop so low. How can women expect safety if people wid such mentality are voted in? Atishi, stay strong. I can imagine how difficult it must be for u. It is precisely this kind of forces we have to fight against.”
