The Congress, which had cited a news report on ‘Yeddy Diaries’, had asked why the BJP had not probed the matter. Reacting, Yeddyurappa said, “The Congress party and its leaders are bankrupt of ideas, they are frustrated with the growing popularity of Modi ji, they have lost the battle before it began. I-T Department officials have already proved that the documents are forged and fake.”

He added, “They have planted the story in the media to gain mileage in the upcoming elections. Issues raised by Congress leaders are irrelevant and false. I’m discussing with the senior advocates to file a defamation case against the concerned person also.”

Yeddyurappa was referring to a report published in Caravan that carried contents of a diary, purportedly belonged to Yeddyurappa and held details of a transaction between him and other party leaders.

Citing the report, Congress spokesperson R S Surjewala had said, earlier, “Close to Rs 2,690 crore was sought and Rs 1,800 crore was given to the BJP. Yeddyurappa was the CM during the period. There are his signatures on each page. This was given to BJP’s central team.”

Attacking the Narendra Modi government, he had said, “If there is no truth to this diary then why did the BJP not get an inquiry done on this. If this true then is this not a first-hand report of BJP’s corruption? Why is there no independent inquiry of this? Now there is also Lokpal and other independent bodies in place. Chor chowkidar is answerable for this.”
