Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Delhi Ready to Fight Against 'Unholy' Congress-BJP Alliance, Says Arvind Kejriwal After Sheila Dikshit Rules Out Coalition With Aam Aadmi Party

New Delhi: Soon after Sheila Dikshit, Congress in-charge for Delhi, ruled out alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal  lashed out at the grand old party and accused it of helping BJP.

“At a time when the whole country wants to defeat Modi- Shah duo, Congress is helping BJP by splitting anti-BJP vote,” Delhi CM and AAP convener Kejriwal tweeted. Furthermore he alleged,”Rumours are that Congress has some secret understanding withe BJP. Delhi is ready to fight against Cong-BJP alliance. People will defeat this unholy alliance.”

Earlier in the day,  after meeting of Delhi Congress unit Sheila Dikshit said,”The Congress unanimously has taken a decision that there will be no alliance with AAP. The decision was taken in Rahul Gandhi’s presence and it is final.”

While the Delhi unit was firm on not tying-up the AAP from the beginning, the central leadership had been exploring the possibility of an understanding harping on the need for all opposition parties to put up a united front against the BJP.

On March 2, Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had declared candidates for six of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, claiming that the Congress has already said a “no” to the alliance.

“The party has decided to field Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Dilip Pandey from North East Delhi, Atishi from East Delhi, Brajesh Goel from New Delhi, Gugan Singh from North West Delhi and Raghav Chadha from South Delhi,” AAP’s Delhi Convenor Gopal Rai said.

“A few names have been considered for West Delhi. The party will announce the candidate in the next few days,” he added.
