During his visit to Tamil Nadu, he unveiled several development projects from Perumanallur village in Tiruppur and laid the foundation stone of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC) multi-speciality hospital at Tiruppur. Security was beefed up after several anti-Modi posters have been put up in Andhra Pradesh. PM Modi reached the rally venue in Guntur to lay foundations stone of various developmental projects. This is PM Modi’s first visit to the state after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ended its ties with the saffron party over the Special Category Status. Posters with messages like #Modi Never Again, #NoMoreModi, #ModiisMistake surfaced on Saturday in the state, meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked his party cadre to observe protest day on Sunday across the state.
The Chief Minister had said to its party workers to observe Sunday as a ‘dark day’ and asked the TDP cadre to sport yellow and black shirts besides releasing black and yellow balloons into the sky as a mark of protest against the prime minister’s visit.
PTI reported that the BJP lodged a complaint with police seeking action against those who put up the hoardings against the Prime Minister.
The Congress too called for observance of the black day on Sunday over Modi’s failure to honour the promises made to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, party sources said.
On Saturday, the CPI and the CPI-M organised a demonstration protesting the Prime Ministers visit in Vijayawada. Similar protests were held in Guntur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts as well.
PM Modi unveiled the Visakhapatnam Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) facility of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited. ONGC’s Vashishta and S1 development project in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) Offshore Basin were also inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
TDP stitched an alliance with the Congress as it assured to award special status to Andhra Pradesh, Naidu further said. Naidu also asserted that he will not stop until justice is done to the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The TDP broke away from the NDA in March last year over the Centre’s refusal to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh. The party had also moved a ‘no-confidence motion’ in the monsoon session of Parliament in July, which was defeated. TDP MPs had staged a protest inside and outside Parliament.
