New Delhi: Bhiwandi Parliamentary Constituency is one of the 48 constituencies of Maharashtra, formed before the 1962 elections but dissolved after that of the 1967 one only to be reformed after the delimitation of assemblies of 2008.
It comprises of six Vidhan Sabha segments, out of which two are reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
The BJP broke into the Congress bastion in 2014 with Kapil M Patil winning against the Congress candidate. The Grand Old Party had been registering a win since 1962 in the elections. This time BJP’s Patil is seeking a re-election against the Congress candidate Suresh Taware.
Dr Shrikant Shinde is the sitting Shiv Sena MP from Kalyan Lok Sabha seat who in 2014 had defeated NCP’s Anand P Paranjpe by nearly 3,00,000 votes. Pranjpe was the MP in 2009 and that time he was with Shiv Sena. Srikant Shinde is seeking a re-election from Kalyan against the NCP’s Babaji Balaram Patil.
