Later, she said, “The work that PM Modi has done for women empowerment and his thoughts towards women, is evident. He has put women in leading portfolios, he has also worked extensively for the ‘divyangs’.”
Malik is an athlete who won India two bronze medals in last year’s Asian Para Games in Indonesia. She won the medals in discus throw and javelin throw.
Later, she said, “Being a Paralympic athlete comes with a lot of challenges…it has been a soul-satisfying journey for me at the event and coming home with two medals.”
She has also been advocating equal treatment of para-sports. She feels it is more challenging to play sports and winning international medals.
“There’s always a dilemma in para-sports. We never know when our events could get changed or when we could be combined in other categories under point systems. So, winning an international medal in para-sports is a little more difficult and challenging and unpredictable than abled-bodied sports. So para-sports should now be respected,” she told ANI.
Earlier, Malik won a silver medal in the shot put at 2016 Paralympic Games, but competed in discus and javelin throw at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.
