Meerut: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday met Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad who was in hospital after he was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.
Priyanka was accompanied by senior party leaders Raj Babbar and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Chandrashekhar and his supporters were taken into custody on Tuesday for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by using more than the permitted number of motorcycles in a rally.
Chandrashekhar reportedly took ill after being detained so he was admitted to a local hospital here. After the meeting, Priyanka reportedly asked the media to not give a political colour to the meeting.
After the meeting, she said, “He is a young man who is struggling and raising his voice, but this government is trying to suppress his voice. I am here because I like his energy and the way he raises voice for youth.”
Priyanka had debuted at a political rally in Gujarat on Tuesday where she took on PM Modi on his home turf. There, she exhorted the people to vote wisely as they were voting for their future. She told them to treat their vote as their “weapon”, raise the right issues and take wise decisions.
She also took to Twitter, tweeting for the first time since she joined the micro-blogging site a while back.
She put up two tweets; one on Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram and the other quoting Bapu. “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent,” she quoted Bapu thus in her tweet.
“In the simple dignity of Sabarmati, the truth lives on,” she said in her first tweet posted.
