New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday will kick off his ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ (I too am a watchman) campaign and interact with over 25 lakh people across the country through an audio bridge medium. On the eve of Holi, the PM will address the watchmen community and highlight their works.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hailed the campaign as a “people’s movement” as the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ hashtag has been tweeted 20 lakh times and has had 1,680 crore impressions. While BJP leaders, including party president Amit Shah, and Union ministers followed PM Modi and prefixed their names on the microblogging site with ‘chowkidar’ as they sought people’s support for the party in the Lok Sabha polls, the Opposition left no stone unturned in attacking the Modi-government.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting will continue today to decide on its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Union Ministers and BJP leaders will mull over several strategies for upcoming polls in the CEC meeting at BJP headquarters. Discussions will be held on seats in 10 states including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Odisha. The CEC last met on Saturday, March 16, following which it released a list of 123 candidates for Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and 54 candidates for Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the Congress chief and AICC president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to hold a rally in Tripura today in the run-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee officials said this will be the first Tripura visit of Gandhi after being elected as the AICC president. Rahul will begin his rally with an interactive session with students of Manipur at Manipur State Film Development Society Auditorium, Imphal, Manipur. He’d then proceed to a public meeting at Hapta Kangjeibung Ground and then head for a public meeting at Khumpui Academy Ground, Khumulwng, Agartala, Tripura.
Also, Congress general secretary for East Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will offer prayer at Kashi Vishwanath Temple today. She would seek blessings of Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of the temple. Giving details of Priyanka’s programme, district Congress president Prajanath Sharma said, “She will move by road from Chunar (Mirzapur) to Ramnagar in Varanasi, where she will visit the ancestral house and memorial of Lal Bahadur Shastri. From Ramnagar, she will take a boat to Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat.”
“During her stay, she will meet mallah (boatmen) community at Assi Ghat, and offer prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple. From where she will go to attend a Holi Milan programme and meet party workers in Piplani Katra locality. An arrangement has been made for 1,500 people for this purpose and the entry would be allowed to pass holders only,” he added. Priyanka will also meet the family members of martyrs Avdhesh Yadav in Bahadurpur, Vishal Pandey in Chowkaghat and Ramesh Yadav in Tofapur.
