New Delhi: After weeks of deliberations, Vijayakanth-led DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) stitched a pre-poll seat sharing alliance with the BJP-AIADMK-PMK combine in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

Putting all speculations to rest pertaining to its choice of an alliance partner, the DMDK leadership on March 10 announced a tie-up with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and agreed to contest on four seats. DMDK was long known to be holding parallel talks with both the AIADMK and DMK, seeking favorable number of seats to contest this Lok Sabha election.

Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK  Coordinator O. Panneerselvam said the actor-turned politician Vijayakanth’s DMDK will also support his party in the by-elections for 21 Assembly constituencies.

He added that though the Election Commission has announced by-elections only for 18 assembly constituencies along with the Lok Sabha polls, the DMDK will support the AIADMK whenever the bypolls are held for the remaining three seats.

Panneerselvam further added that the constituency allocation will be made to the alliance parties after mutual discussions. DMDK Treasurer Premalatha said the alliance will continue even for the local body elections in Tamil Nadu.

In the 235-member Assembly, the AIADMK has 114 members followed by the DMK with 88, Congress eight, one of the IUML, one Independent, the Speaker and 21 vacant seats (19 disqualified and two dead). Besides, there is a nominated member.
