New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi, sister and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are set to address three joint election rallies in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, Shamili and Bijnor districts on April 8. Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh (West) Jyotiraditya Scindia is also believed to accompany the duo to the rallies.

Since Priyanka Gandhi took the plunge into active politics, she has addressed several rallies along with brother Rahul Gandhi and each time has launched a blistering attacking on PM Modi and the BJP.

In a recent interaction with students in Pune, Congress president Rahul Gandhi avowed that his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is his “best friend” and that there can be no fights with her ever.

Asked if they ever have arguments, Gandhi said, “There would be fights earlier. But not now. Since I was small, I have been through a lot of violence with the assassinations of my grandmother and father.”

“My sister has been my friend and we understand each other well. If there is a situation of argument, sometimes she backs off and sometimes I do.”

On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted on April 4, the day Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, that people should ‘take care’ of her ‘truest friend’. “My brother, my truest friend, and by far the most courageous man I know. Take care of him Wayanad, he won’t let you down.” Thousands gave a rousing welcome to Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad on Thursday, with Priyanka by his side- when he reached to file his nomination papers.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and senior BJP leader J.P. Nadda will hold public meetings in Meerut, Bijnor and Saharanpur Lok Sabha constituencies, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address a public meeting in Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Kairana and Baghpat constituencies on April 8.

The mega public address of the BJP and the Congress comes a day after the SP-BSP-RLD alliance held their first joint rally in Saharanpur on Sunday. The joint rally was addressed by Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh.

Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on April 11.

Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a triangular contest this time. The BJP-led NDA which had won 73 out of the state’s 80 seats in 2014 is facing a tough challenge from the Congress and the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in the state. The SP had won five seats in the 2014 elections, the Congress two and the BSP and the RLD nil.
