She added, “People will be scared to come to polling booths if violence continues in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee is destroying the democracy in the state.”

Reacting to the Congress attack on the NDA over the controversial Rafale deal, the Defence Minister also reportedly said that the grand old party must first talk about AgustaWestland before they criticised the Narendra Modi-led government about the Rafale deal.

Meanwhile, after the controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s attribution of ‘chowkidar chor hai’ jibe to Supreme Court ended with the Congress President apologising to the apex court, Sitharaman had said that Rahul had no credibility as he had been repeatedly speaking lies.

“His credibility has taken a beating. People in public life to generously go on saying untruth and to repeat it is a matter of grief. I feel sorry that President of a national party like Congress depends only on falsehood,” she had said while addressing a press conference.

Rahul had ended up expressing regret in the Supreme Court. Calling his remarks ‘unfortunate’, the Congress chief had accepted that the top court never used those words against the PM. Rahul, in his response in the apex court, in connection with a contempt petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, said he had made the statements in the heat of political campaigning which was misused by his opponents.
