New Delhi: The man who hurled a shoe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP GVL Narasimha Rao, when he was addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in the national capital earlier on Thursday, did it for limelight, sources close to police were quoted as saying by Zee News.

The accused man is Shakti Bhargava, a resident of Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. During the preliminary investigation, he identified himself as a doctor by profession. As per police sources, the motive behind the attack was his intention of coming into media limelight.

Earlier in the day, when the BJP MP was launching an attack at the Congress party for defaming Hindus by foisting “false cases” on Hindutva activists, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, he was interrupted by a flying shoe that nearly missed him. The accused was then caught and escorted out by some people.

Rao then said, “Condemnable action on the part of the Congress party. This is another attempt by another Congress inspired person. Who comes in here to show the same kind of mentality… ”

Meanwhile, the BJP has not registered any official complaint with regard to the matter. Bhargava is however, being questioned by the Special Cell and Intelligence Bureau following which a probe is likely to be initiated against him.
