New Delhi: Delhi Deputy chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manisha Sisodia on Friday hit back at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over alleged distribution of pamphlets carrying derogatory remarks against party leader Atishi. He also threatened to slap defamation notice on the cricketer-turned-politician. Sisodia’s counter came after Gambhir filed a defamation case against AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday. Speaking to news agency ANI, he had said, “I condemn what has happened. I am from a family where I have been taught to respect women. I didn’t know CM Arvind Kejriwal would stoop so low. On Thursday, senior AAP leaders, including Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Gambhir was accused of indulging in a maligning campaign by distributing pamphlets with derogatory language against AAP candidate from East Delhi Atishi.
The AAP candidate from East Delhi seat, who broke down while reading out the contents of the pamphlet, had said, ” “BJP people and Gautam Gambhir circulated this pamphlet in every household along with the morning newspaper… This shows how low they can stoop to win elections… This pamphlet distributed by Gambhir’s team reads- Know your candidate Atishi Marlena. She is married to a Christian from Andhra Pradesh that is a beef eater. She is a good example of a mixed breed… What kind of education policies can she make if she has worked only as a primary school teacher…”
Delhi is scheduled to go to Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on May 12. The results of the seven parliamentary constituencies will be announced on May 23.
